Our P-Seal is a static seal comprising a profiled elastomeric sealing element that is energised by the injection of plastic packing.
In operation, the inside diameter (primary sealing face) of P-Seal acts on the outside diameter of the casing/tubing running through it. The groove/recess in the opposite face of P-Seal accommodates the injected plastic packing to energise the system and create an effective seal.
P-Seal is composed of one rubber ring and two plastic back-up rings. Its cross section provides excellent sealing functions while acting on the rough casing and tubing
Used in casing and tubing heads to seal rough casing and production tubing.
James Walker P-Seals have been tested in accordance with API 6A specification.
Primary sealing element: either homogenous elastomer or rubberised fabric - a wide selection of top quality elastomers and fabric materials suitable for oilfield duties is available to meet customer specifications.
Anti-extrusion elements: mesh of compressed stainless steel wire to BS EN 10088-3-1.4436 (formerly Grade 316 S33).

Temperature & pressure factors
High temperature: generally recommend
NBR < HNBR < FKM < FEPM < FFKM.
Low temperature: materials are selected according to Tg (see page 20).
Temperature cycling: NBR and HNBR cater well for temperature cycling. FKM caters less well, and FEPM should be used only with extreme caution.
Pressure: at higher pressure it is generally advisable to use higher-hardness materials
to prevent extrusion. Moreover, seal designs incorporating anti-extrusion elements
may be required. It should be noted that materials soften significantly at elevated
temperatures - especially fluorinated types.
High pressure gas: use only validated rapid gas decompression (RGD) resistant grades.
Good resistance to hot water and steam, detergents, caustic potash solutions, silicone oil and greases, many polar solvents, and many diluted acids and chemicals, along with a high level of ozone resistance. EPDM materials are totally unsuitable for use with all mineral oil products (lubricants, fuels).
Good chemical resistance to mineral oils and greases, synthetic oils and greases, engine, transmission and ATF oils to approx. +150°C, fuels, non-flammable hydraulic pressure fluids HFD, aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, water to max. +80°C, excellent resistance to weathering, ozone and ageing, very low gas permeability (and therefore excellent for vacuum application) and resistance to a wide range of chemicals.
HNBR is obtained by fully or partially hydrogenating NBR. It leads to considerable improvement in resistance to heat, ozone and ageing, and gives it very good mechanical properties, e.g. good resistance to wear. The media resistance compares to that of NBR. HNBR has a good resistance to some refrigerants. The temperature application range is from -30°C to +150°C.
Good chemical resistance to mineral oils and greases, hydraulic oils H, HL, HLP, non-inflammable hydraulic pressure fluids HFA, HFB, HFC to approx. +50°C and water to max. +80°C
Good resistance to water (up to 100 °C), aliphatic engine and transmission oils, animal and plant oils and fats. VMQ is generally not resistant to fuels, aromatic mineral oils, steam (short term up to 120 °C possible), silicone oils and greases, acids and alkaline compounds.
